Normal to vote on 6-month data center moratorium

The Normal, Illinois Town Council was set to vote on a six-month moratorium on data center development at its May 18 meeting. Town staff said data centers present distinct challenges and impacts that require study before regulations are developed. The moratorium would run through November 30, 2026 while officials evaluate best practices and develop standards.
