Red Blinders by W.D. Peak — a near-future techno-thriller (2026 debut)
What is Red Blinders?
Red Blinders is a near-future political techno-thriller about Kenneth Warzel, a burned-out Philadelphia professional whose private experiment with a pair of horse blinders is filmed, leaked, and engineered into virality. As Warzel, our accidental revolutionary, struggles to navigate his fraught fame, he finds himself at the heart of a grand conspiracy: on one side a corrupt government in bed with industry, on the other an army of blinder-clad anarchists and their fleet of explosive-equipped drones.
For fans of
- Daemon by Daniel Suarez — a distributed AI that acts through infrastructure and people, not robots.
- Recursion by Blake Crouch — propulsive, ideas-first momentum that turns out to be about consciousness.
- The Circle by Dave Eggers — a single corporation and the architecture of voluntary surveillance.
- Annie Bot by Sierra Greer — a constructed mind that has begun to want something of its own.
- Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro — the literary-AI register of a non-human consciousness with a philosophy.
- The Every by Dave Eggers — tech-monopoly satire one quarterly earnings call from real.
The premise
The anti-AI movement is coming. Who will it benefit? Who will it hurt?
