EU AI Act Update: Timeline Relief, Targeted Simplification, and New Prohibitions
On May 7, 2026, EU negotiators finalized Digital Omnibus amendments to the AI Act that defer high-risk compliance obligations for stand-alone Annex III systems to December 2, 2027, and for AI embedded in regulated products under Annex I to August 2, 2028. The package introduces new prohibitions on AI-generated non-consensual intimate imagery and child sexual abuse material and expands centralized EU-level supervision through the AI Office.
