East Fishkill passes 3-year data center freeze

The East Fishkill Town Board voted unanimously to adopt a three-year moratorium barring data centers over 20 megawatts until July 2029. The freeze followed community opposition to a large facility proposed by Treetop Development that would have been roughly ten times larger than New York's biggest existing data center. Dozens of residents turned out citing concerns over rising electricity costs and groundwater quality near local superfund sites.
